Versatile actor Mrittika Chatterjee who has made a mark for herself playing multiple characters in the Chennai South Indian theater scene with the sold out show ‘what happened’.

The Indian staging of the play at the renowned Indianostrum after its shows in Chennai Alliance Francais, “What Happened”, features Mrittika Chatterjee in eleven different roles.

Indianostrum Théâtre is a theatre company located at Pondicherry, India. Its legal status is of Charitable Trust. The 11 year old theatre company was founded by Koumarane Valavane along with a few actors who were passionate about theatre.

Indianostrum’s core aim is to expand the role of modern theatre in the cultural life of the country, by developing new modern texts, finding the specificities of Indian modern theatre, exploring its relationships with traditional forms and transcending political, social and historical divides.

The Indian staging of the play at Indianostrum “I hate this” is to be produced by Chennai art Theatre and is adapted with the title “What happened?”. Mrittika Chatterjee a 22 year old film and theatre actor based out of chennai and performs in English, Hindi, Bengali and Tamil. In this play she portrays all the characters that the father and mother of the still born interacts with in life post this tragedy. She has received appreciation and admiration for her performance in this production by the entire theatre scene. The father is played by T M Karthik a well known tamil actor from India with many films to his name and over thirty years of experience on stage and gives a very subtle and mesmerizing tragic performance.

At their thirty-week prenatal appointment, the playwright and his wife discover their first child has died due to preeclampsia. The events of the play cover the thirty-six hours between that revelation and the birth of their son, and also events during the year that leads up to this child’s first birthday, all from the point of view of the father. By elucidating such mundane moments as his futile attempts to be removed from a baby-food company mailing list, Hansen gives us a glimpse into day-to-day life after a baby dies.
